It's the week of the World Economic Forum is Davos, Switzerland.
The Vice President has spent her fortnight in Europe meeting with NATO leaders. Her goal, an amendment to NATO's Nuclear Deterrence Policy in response to increasing hostility from Iran and North Korea.
With a deal now struck to bolster NATO's nuclear stockpile, the President of the United States is en route to deliver his key note speech to other world leaders at the Economic Forum, where he'll formally announce the new nuclear deal.
Secret though the Vice President's dealings have been to date, word of the United States' nuclear posturing has leaked to the global press. Now, Russia is demanding an immediate response from the President, Iran has begun moving troops, anti-nuclear protests have erupted across NATO member countries, and China's threat of sanctions threatens global trade. Put simply, POTUS is flying into a diplomatic fiasco.
Suddenly, word arrives that communication with Air Force One has been lost! Somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean, POTUS is flying mute - no comms in or out.
You, as National Security Advisor, are immediately put on the emergency taskforce actioned with restoring comms to Air Force One.
Quickly, you realise something is amiss... it appears deliberate that POTUS is offline... but by whose design, and why? Could it have something to do with the NATO nuclear deal?
